Abstract

Historical sources called us the names of the representatives of the higher clergy of ancient Pereiaslav - bishops, abbots and other ecclesiastics. The most influential of these were bishops of Pereyaslavl. Different researchers account for seventeen bishops. They occupied episcopal chair of Pereyaslavl during the entire period of its existence. The most famous of them - it is the bishops Ephraim, Euthymios and Simeon. They were later canonized. On many bishops of Pereyaslavl remained little evidence in historical sources. Therefore it is not always possible to establish the chronology of their stay episcopal chair of Pereyaslavl and other important data. However, the available information gives an idea about the main part of the spiritual elite Pereyaslavl of Rus’. She made a significant contribution to the historical and cultural development of Pereyaslav and the whole of Rus’.
