Abstract

The article analyzes the policy of large European countries – France, Britain, Austria, Russia and Turkey on the issue of providing independence and political autonomy of the Danubian principalities. After the Eastern (Crimean) war, the issue of unifi cation of the Romanian lands acquires new meaning and becomes a major in European diplomacy. Unfortunately, none of the European countries did not want the real unifi cation of the Romanian lands, because the fi rst attempt to address this issue and to hold elections to autonomous governments ended inconclusively. Despite the terms of the Paris Peace (1856) and subsequent disposal of the Turkish Government to address this issue during the 1856-1857 biennium and failed.
