Soviet toponyms 1920–1930’s: formation and history of ideologically-valuable guidance.

Abstract

In the article the process of formation of the Soviet toponyms during the 1920–1930’s., especially the formation of new settlements and the names of various government economic, cultural and educational institutions. Showing their ideological and political content of Soviet names, which were to form the corresponding values in the public mind, to promote the Bolshevik system. Mass replacing old place names Bolsheviks sought to break with the past, destroy historical memory. Therefore, subject to rename religious, old Cossack names Russifi cation enhance processes and unify to form its own system of symbols. Therefore Soviet place names have become a type of propaganda, they refl ect class and revolutionary ideals. Special widespread registered name in honor of the heroes and Soviet commanders, the founders of the international revolutionary movement. And from 1930 gained massive renaming in honor of the leaders of the Soviet state. In conditions of repression and the strain of social values, toponymic names became sacred character and also fell under persecution.
